# Transition from ClickUp

Guide for transitioning from ClickUp to Shortcut with concept mappings and feature comparisons.

## Overview

This guide helps you transition from ClickUp to Shortcut. Shortcut is designed for software teams, so you'll find features and names are developer-focused.

For more on the Shortcut hierarchy, see [Quick Start](/help/getting-started/quick-start).

## Stories vs. ClickUp Tasks

| Shortcut | ClickUp | Description |
|----------|---------|-------------|
| **Story** | Task | Individual piece of work |
| **Requester** | Assigned By | User requesting the work |
| **Owner** | Assignee | User completing the work |
| **Following** | Watchers | User following the Story |
| **Estimate Field** | Time Tracked | Story points (customizable scale) |

**Best Practice:** A Story should be 1-2 days of work (no longer than a week or two). Break larger work into multiple Stories using Story relationships.

## Sub-tasks vs. ClickUp Checklists

Sub-tasks break down Stories into smaller pieces. Like Stories, you can estimate Sub-tasks, connect them to VCS, and move them through your Workflow.

## Epics vs. ClickUp Targets/Lists

An **Epic** is a collection of Stories representing a larger feature or initiative. In Shortcut, Epics can span multiple Workflows and Teams.

## Teams vs. ClickUp Teams/Spaces

**Teams** represent cross-functional squads who collectively own Stories, Epics, and Iterations. Teams are easily filterable and can be added/removed from any entity.

## Iterations vs. ClickUp Sprints

**Iterations** are time-boxed periods for sprint tracking. The Iteration page includes Burndown charts, Cycle Time/Lead Time charts, and Cumulative Flow Diagrams.

## Saved Spaces vs. ClickUp Spaces

**Spaces** are filtered views of the Stories page. Create views for your work, your team's work, or any custom filter—no siloed views needed.

## Workflows vs. ClickUp Status

**Workflows** define the states Stories move through. Shortcut Workflows are linear but can transition based on VCS actions.

- Workflows and Teams have a many-to-many relationship
- Easy to standardize Workflows across your organization
