# Slack

Connect Shortcut with Slack to unfurl Story links, create Stories from messages, sync threads, and receive @mention notifications.

## Overview

The Shortcut integration for Slack lets you create Stories from messages, receive real-time updates on work you're following, and keep teams in sync with thread syncing and notifications—so you can track and take action without switching tools.

- **Create Stories from Slack messages** — turn a Slack message into a Shortcut Story with context preserved
- **Sync Slack threads to Stories** — keep conversations in sync between platforms
- **Get notified in Slack** — stay updated on mentions and activity
- **Link Teams to Slack channels** — automatically post updates to relevant channels

## Set Up the Integration

1. In Shortcut, click **Integrations > Slack**
2. Click **Add to Slack** to install the Shortcut app to your Slack Workspace
3. Authorize the integration if prompted — we'll let you know if your install needs an update
4. Link a Team or Custom Field value to a Slack channel to start getting notifications

## Create Stories from Slack

Use the Slack message action menu or the `/shortcut create` command to turn a message into a Shortcut Story. The message content and context carry over—no copy/paste needed. Stories created this way also unfurl in Slack to include the full description.

## Link Teams or Custom Field Values to Slack Channels

Keep everyone aligned. Link a Shortcut Team (or a specific Custom Field value) to a Slack channel and get Story updates posted automatically—great for surfacing changes, comments, and activity for shared work.

To set up, click **Integrations > Slack > Link a Team**, then choose a Slack channel.

## Slack Thread Sync

Connect Slack threads to Shortcut Stories with the **Link/Unlink Thread** action:

- Comments from the Slack thread are synced into the Story (with links back to Slack)
- Replies in Shortcut also show up in Slack, keeping context alive in both tools
- You can unlink a thread at any time, either in Slack or from the Shortcut comment

## Notifications

Connect your Shortcut Teams to a Slack channel to stay informed of work progress. You'll receive a notification when:

**Story Notifications:**

* A Story is created for the Team
* An existing Story is assigned to the Team
* The Story assigned to the Team changes State
* A new comment is added to a Story assigned to the Team

**Epic Notifications:**

* An Epic is created for the Team
* An existing Epic is assigned to the Team
* An Epic assigned to the Team changes State
* A new comment is added to an Epic assigned to the Team

You can toggle [personal Slack notifications](/help/account/notifications#personal-slack-notifications) on or off from your settings. Mention a teammate or your Team in a comment to notify them via Slack.
