An update to our Terms of Service
We recently made an addition to our Terms of Service. Here is the text of that addition, in full:
"Shortcut may terminate this agreement upon written notice if Shortcut determines, in its sole and absolute discretion, that Customer has engaged in or permitted behavior that Shortcut considers to be immoral, racist, or discriminatory on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease."
Why make this update?
You may or may not be aware of Shortcut’s company values. You can see all five of them listed on our careers page, but two of them are particularly relevant here:
Treating people right - We are respectful, thoughtful, and empathetic, treating others how we want to be treated.
Spreading joy - We want our work to make people smile. And maybe briefly chuckle.
I think we can all agree that supporting organizations which engage in the behavior described in this addition to our Terms would not be in keeping with either of these values.
Note that the word “Customer” does not refer to individual users. If one of your teammates personally acted as described, that’s not something we’d even know about. “Customer” refers to Organizations. Is a company actively working in support of racism and discrimination? Then its account would be subject to termination.
We didn't make this change so we could terminate a relationship with a current customer. We simply made this addition to ensure it’s clear we’ll take action should it ever be necessary.
Does this update impact our data collection in any way?
This does not impact data collection. We remain fully GDPR compliant and have changed nothing in that regard. This update was made solely to note that we may terminate an account in the very rare case that a company is dedicated to something abhorrent.
