Stay on top of work in Shortcut with email and browser notifications. Choose how and when you want to be notified about Stories, Epics, comments, and @mentions.
@ mentions
@-mentions let you reference or call attention to team members anywhere in Shortcut. When you @-mention someone, they receive notifications through the channels they have enabled.
You can reference or call attention to a team member in a comment, description, or Story checklist item by typing @ and then typing or selecting the person’s name or username in the dropdown.
Activity Feed Notifications
You will receive notifications of any @-mentions in Story or Epic comments or descriptions as well as Tasks in the Activity Feed.
You can also configure your Activity Feed preferences so that the badge only appears when you have a new @-mention.
Email Notifications
Shortcut email notifications allow you to receive regular email updates on the Stories and Epics that you are following. If you find you are not receiving news about Stories or Epics you are interested in, log in, click on the Story or Epic, and make sure you are selected as a Follower.
When you follow an Epic, you will receive notification emails about every Story in that Epic.
You will not receive notifications simply because you are a Requester. While a Story Requester is added as a Follower by default, you should ensure you are indeed selected as a Follower to receive notifications.
You will not receive notifications about actions you take yourself on Stories, Epics, or Projects, nor if you @-mention yourself.

No email notifications.
Replying by Email
You can reply to Story update emails to add a comment to that Story. @mentions will work as expected.
Email replies to threaded comments will reply on the Story but will start a new comment thread.
Disabling Email Notifications
Email notifications are activated by default. To disable notifications:
- Click on your profile icon and then Settings
- Select Notifications (under the “Your Account” section)
- Select None and click Save Changes to disable email notifications
Browser Notifications
Shortcut supports browser notifications in Google Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. If you have notifications enabled in these browsers, any time your Shortcut user name is mentioned in a Story comment or Epic discussion, you will receive a browser notification.
Enable Browser Notifications
Enabling notifications can be done in the Settings section of the respective browsers:
Chrome
Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Notifications > Choose a notification option and add https://app.shortcut.com to the “Allowed to send notifications” list.
Firefox
- Click the padlock icon in the address bar
- Click the arrow in the Site Information drop-down panel
- Click More information in the next panel to bring up the Page Info window
- Click the Permissions tab
- Under Send Notifications, choose the notification option: Allow
If your choices are grayed out, deselect the “Use Default” checkbox, then select “Allow”.
Safari
Preferences > Notifications > Select Allow next to app.shortcut.com
Clicking Browser Notifications
When you receive a browser notification from Shortcut, clicking it will take you to the Story or Epic comment where you were mentioned in a new tab of your web browser.
If you do not wish to click on your notification, the notification will dismiss itself in a few seconds if you are using Safari or Firefox. In Chrome, the notification can be dismissed by clicking the x in the upper right-hand corner of the notification.
Personal Slack Notifications
Personal Slack notifications allow you to receive a notification from the “Shortcut” app if you (or a Team you’re a part of) are @-mentioned within a Shortcut story description or comment, or Epic description or comment. These personal Slack messages can be responded to in-thread to push a comment to the Story in Shortcut (and emoji reacts work, too 👍). You can’t currently @-mention yourself for Slack notifications.
To enable these, you’ll first need to make sure you’ve followed the above instructions for updating your Integration.
Head to your Shortcut Settings once your Slack Integration has been updated and look for Notification Settings. Look for the section that now shows Slack Notifications.
Hit “Sign in with Slack” to authorize the newest version of the code if you have not upgraded the Slack integration yet.
Once the integration has been updated, you should now see the ability to toggle these personal Slack notifications on and off as you please.
